Because I love my horses….

Posted January 27th, 2010 by Galen Lehman

Last year I blogged about how I might become Amish just because I love my horses. (Click here to read the post.)

I have a friend who grew up Amish. He’s not Amish any longer, but he still loves his horses! Here he is enjoying the winter weather with his wife and his horse (hopefully, in that order!):

Loving October in Amish Country

Posted October 21st, 2009 by Galen Lehman

On the road to Kidron

This morning I took this photo with my cell phone on the road between Mt. Hope and our store in Kidron. I’m loving life in NE Ohio right now! Bright blue skies, brilliant fall leaves just reaching their peak, farmers in the fields laying up their corn shocks. Life is good!

Customer review of Lehman’s Kidron store

Posted September 26th, 2009 by Galen Lehman

When Keith and Donna Green of Lufkin, TX visited our store in Kidron, they kindly wrote about their trip and posted pictures on their blog at Green2GoRV.

If you want to see some great pictures of our store and the surrounding community, check out their blog by clicking here.

Or, just take a look at these pictures, all of which were taken by the Greens:

The Greens found my dad, Jay Lehman, hard at work.

This time of year is a great time to visit, as our Amish neighbors are out harvesting in the fields.

Work of our Hands!

Posted August 11th, 2009 by Sue Steiner

One thing I know is that Lehman’s attracts the type of people who like to keep busy, who are innovative and appreciate good craftsmanship.  Its been apparent during the ongoing arts and crafts demos being put on by Ohio Arts and Crafts Guild members that it ”takes one to know one’.  By that I mean that people who work with their hands, whether its to build, garden, cook, craft, repair or beautify appreciate people who do the same!  One of the best aspects of being in the Buggy Barn to do demos is meeting people who share with me their ‘art’.

I paint the farm animal murals.  I have had wonderful conversations with people about their farm experiences and the work of their hands!  It is refreshing in today’s society to hear what people are creating!  You inspire me so thank you!

We’ve made it a point to bring you a well rounded variety of artisans to share with you their knowledge and experience on a regular basis in the Buggy Barn at the Kidron store.

In the photos above you can see a curious furry visitor to the store checking out Vicki Boatright’s artwork!  Amy of Three Sister’s Wool is also pictured during a recent wool rug hooking demo.  The hitching post mural is the backdrop for the quilters as they were preparing for the MCC Relief Sale not long ago in the Buggy Barn.

Please take a moment to check out Lehman’s Event Calendar on this blog to see the upcoming demonstrations.  You will find potters, painters, fiber arts, blacksmithing, wood carvers and wool rug hooking to name a few.  So as you plan your trip to Ohio Amish Country make sure you keep the demos in mind to add just a little something more to your visit!

If you are in Kidron this Friday please stop in the Buggy Barn and say hi to me.  I am just finishing up a mural of a ewe and her lambs to keep company with the assorted farm animals already painted indoors and out.

Weaving during a recent Fiber Arts Demo

I thought I would share with you some photos of recent Ohio Arts and Crafts Guild demos taking place at Lehman’s in the Buggy Barn.  You can see whats on the schedule for upcoming demos here:

We’ve been getting together a talented group of local artists to share with you the work of their hands and knowledge of their craft during these demos or to just share ideas to inspire each other.   From participating in  demos the last couple years at Lehmans I think the most pleasant part about it is to hear from visitors to the store what they make or create.  You are a creative bunch so thank you for your interest and appreciation.     I’ll be in this Friday to add to the farm animal murals so stop in and say hi!

Attack of the wild animals!

Posted June 6th, 2009 by Galen Lehman

Am I the only one that thinks animals are taking over?

Yesterday, we found this painted turtle in the yard. I released him in our farm pond.

Yesterday, my daughter found this painted turtle in the yard. I released him in our farm pond.

20 years ago I told my Dad I thought I saw a fox in the woods. He said it couldn’t be because they were hunted out. Since then, I’ve seen four or five!

Yesterday afternoon, a buck with felt-covered antlers strolled by a few hundred feet from our house. I walked outside with my rifle and shot into the ground at its feet 3-4 times. (It not being deer season, I couldn’t legally do much else.) He stood stock still and stared at me as if to say, “It’s not deer season, you stupid human.”

Here’s a list of the animals we’ve sighted in the last few years:

Posted May 18th, 2009 by Glenda Ervin

Dutch Oven Gathering

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE KIDRON, OH – May 12, 2009: Dutch oven enthusiasts from all over northeast Ohio are holding their second annual Dutch Oven Gathering at Lehman’s in Kidron on Saturday, May 23, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Over 30 cooks have already signed up for this fun event but more are welcome. Dutch oven cooks of all skill levels are invited. Individuals as well as groups like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are welcome. Bring all your supplies and a favorite dish or two to cook.

Never cooked in a Dutch oven before and want to learn? No problem: “Dutch Oven” Dave Horton will be here from Buffalo, NY to put on one of his Dutch oven training classes in Lehman’s Buggy Barn. And Lehman’s has a large selection of cast iron pots and accessories for you to choose from.

Last year’s Dutch Oven Cook-off at Lehman’s drew lots of great cooks – and great taste testers! The cooks will begin set up at 10 am – so plan on eating a great pot-luck style meal at 4:00p.m.

For more information on this event or to sign-up, please call or email: Matt Buser at 330-603-7266 or mebuser@neo.rr.com

In addition, the popular local bluegrass band Northwest Territory will be playing at Lehman’s from 11 am to 2 pm. Since 1989, Northwest Territory has been entertaining audiences with unique style and enthusiasm. Bluegrass, gospel, country, fiddle tunes and more are all in the band’s repertoire. It’s foot tapping fun for the whole family!

There is no charge for either event – don’t miss the great food, entertaining music, and fantastic shopping at Lehman’s, on the Square in Kidron, on Saturday, May 23.
