To celebrate, we’ve got lots of unexpected goodies in store (including a free product giveaway this Tuesday …

Little-known facts about Jay:

  • He has many names! According to daughter Glenda, family legend says the name on Jay’s birth certificate was supposed to read, “Ezra Lehman, Jr.” but was reversed to be “Jr. Ezra Lehman.” Because of this he was always known as Junior, or J.E. Lehman. These days he simply goes by “Jay.”
  • He has traveled to 72 different countries, including a long-term missions assignment in Africa in the early 1960s.

Got dust? They’re a MUST…

Posted February 25th, 2009 by Sarah N

Late winter is usually  a time when I gaze around the rooms of my home and notice how DUSTY everything has gotten. It’s been several weeks since the Christmas decorations were put away, and the obligatory cleaning done after. Although I dutifully clean the house each week (did I say week? I meant, er, month), it seems the dust piles up so quickly this time of year, when everyone is cooped up inside, the windows can’t be opened due to the cold and the pale winter sun shines in at odd angles, making tiny dust particles dance in the light whenever something is moved.

Hobby Farms Photo Shoot

Hobby Farms Photo Shoot

Lehman’s has often been ‘in the news’ over the years but last Friday was a special day for me. It was a day that I got to be in the spotlight.  Jodi Miller, a free lance photographer from the Columbus area drove up and spent the day with me on a photo shoot for Hobby Farms Home magazine. I am an equine and animal artist living in the Kidron/Dalton area. I painted the farm animal and Hitching Post murals at Lehman’s over the last couple years during store hours as part of Lehman’s arts and crafts demos in the Buggy barn.

Finished pieces will be on display and specific pieces will be offered for sale.
Jim will be in the Buggy Barn at the Lehman’s store in Kidron Sat. from 10:00- 2:00.  You’ll not want to miss this demonstration!

Christine, the Chandler

Posted November 20th, 2008 by Glenda Ervin

In today’s fast moving world of blogs, cell phones, and CNN, you may be wondering how we find the thousands of old-fashioned products that pepper our site, catalog and retail store. Who hand dips candles and weaves picnic baskets? Where can you find someone to create custom wrought iron, or make furniture out of old church pews?

And thus begins a series where I introduce you to a selection of our favorite vendors.

Scents of the Season:

I was in Lehman’s the other day, watching customers react to a lovely display of Lehman’s jelly jar candles. With fragrances like mulled cider, pure vanilla, and pine needle, each customer was first drawn to the attractive packaging (an authentic Ball jelly jar with a color-coordinated label), and then to the scent. Without fail, customers would take off the lid and sniff the candle, not once but twice, before repeating the process with another candle. Then, and only then, could the decision to purchase be made.

“Not all candles are created equally,” explains our favorite local chandler, who created this line for Lehman’s. “You might think it just takes some wax and a wick, but there is much more to it. There are specific characteristics of waxes, wicks, scents and colors. A chandler needs to know the science behind the materials.”

Giant Potatoes Sighted in Kidron Ohio!

Posted October 30th, 2008 by Greg
From our local paper last week:  Kidron resident Leonard Geiser displays some of his giant potatoes that surprised him when he recently dug them up.  Geiser said they weigh about two pounds each.  The one on the left is a sweet potato and the others are red potatoes.  Mr. Geiser grew these monsters on his farm along Hackett Road near Kidron.  The secret to large spuds, he said, is fertilizer, manure and just good soil.

Giant Potato MasherAnd when you have giant potatoes, you need a giant potato masher! Lehman’s giant masher will create a heaping bowl of mashed potatoes, perfect for Thanksgiving dinner or the next family reunion. You can also use it for pumpkin, squash, sweet potatoes, beans and fruit.

Lehman’s on Facebook

Facebook

Facebook

I have given the concept of community a lot of thought in the last couple of months. As I ponder the meaning of community, I had to google the definition. According to Merriam-Websters web site the definition that seems most pertinent would have to be:

1b: people with common interests living in a particular area

Of Course a “particular area” can refer to a geographical location, such as a neighborhood, town, city, etc.

Lehman’s support of the local community in Kidron Ohio, has been going on for over 50 years. The support that Lehman’s provides is sponsorship of events and the participation in the community by the Lehman family and employees of Lehman’s.

Couldn’t a “particular area” also refer to the Internet? Aren’t we all apart of a large and diverse community being brought together in cyberspace?
