Party Recipes

Here is an old favorite recipe – Party Mix and one with a new twist – Barbecue Party Mix – it’s really good, you need to try it! I use my Roaster with Granny Speckles to make both of these recipes. Did you think the only use for a roaster is for your Thanksgiving turkey or Christmas ham – think again. Enjoy!

Original Party Mix
Ingredients:
6 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
3 cups corn cereal
3 cups rice cereal
3 cups wheat cereal
1 cup mixed nuts
1 cup bite-size pretzels
1 cup garlic-flavor bite-size bagel chips or regular-size bagel chips, broken into 1-inch pieces
Preparation Directions:
1. Heat oven to 250°F. In ungreased large roasting pan, melt butter in oven. Stir in seasonings. Gradually stir in remaining ingredients until evenly coated.
2. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool, about 15 minutes. Store in airtight container.
Microwave Directions:
In large microwavable bowl, microwave butter uncovered on High about 40 seconds or until melted. Stir in seasonings. Gradually stir in remaining ingredients until evenly coated. Microwave uncovered on High 5 to 6 minutes, thoroughly stirring every 2 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool. Store in airtight container.
Barbecue Party Mix
Ingredients:
6 cups corn cereal
1 1/2 cups pretzel twists
1 1/2 cups bite-sized cheese crackers
3/4 cup honey-roasted peanuts
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1 tablespoon oil
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Preparation Directions:
1. Heat oven to 250°F. In large bowl, combine cereal, pretzels, crackers and peanuts; mix well. Set aside.
2.In small bowl, combine all remaining ingredients; stir until combined. Pour over cereal mixture; stir until evenly coated. Spread in ungreased 15×10x1-inch baking pan or shallow roasting pan.
3. Bake at 250°F. for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool 20 minutes or until completely cooled. Store in tightly covered container.
