Solar powered pump/well

Posted October 1st, 2007 by rygordon

I have a deep well that uses an electric pump. It is housed inside a small, doghouse sized stick-built structure. I live in NW Florida. We get a good amount of sunshine. Is it feasible to have the well run by solar power? I’ve never heard of a well being solar powered. But I think it would be good if it can be done without costing a small (or large) fortune. Anyone got any info on that? Thanks.

I don’t have any personal experience with using solar to pump water. However, I am aware that it’s done for watering livestock in remote areas and started with that.

I found an article, via Google, at backwoodshome.com that might get you started. Good Luck!

I bought one 6 years ago. it work great on any kind of power. Fact I’ve not spent the money on the solar side of it but it runs great on 120v.
    good luck
